GUEST TEACHING
Most teachers are well aware of the advantages of having a guest teacher to take classes from time to time. It helps students to become more aware of different styles of teaching and to learn other techniques which is advantageous to their training especially if they are intending to audition for vocational college or, take up dance as a career. Jan gives an encouraging, instructional and inspirational class which students will enjoy. Depending on distance, this would usually be a session of 2 to 3 hours covering ‘Grades’, ‘Majors’ or ‘free’ classes working around the RAD method. If an alternative syllabus is taught, Jan would be happy to give ‘free’ classes or, providing the students know their syllabus, to improve on their technique, placing and presentation.
PRIVATE COACHING
Jan is always pleased to help students with private coaching. Over the years, she has assisted numerous students to gain entry to most of the top vocational schools and colleges. For the first one hour session, she would initially assess anatomical attributes and areas of technique that may need to be worked on. Subsequent sessions of ¾ or 1 hour (or longer if preferred) could be arranged. Perhaps a course of coaching could be considered subject always to your dance school principal’s agreement. Jan is also interested in corrective coaching for students with physical difficulties.
MOCK EXAMINATIONS
It is well known that a mock examination can greatly assist exam candidates particularly if it’s their first time. This helps them to understand the procedure, their positions and usually alleviates any fears they may have with their presentation. This in turn helps to assure their examination will be a happy and fulfilling experience. For those students not taking exams but ready to move up, Jan can also examine for in-school Progress Certificates Tests.
MATERNITY LEAVE
If a school principal or one of their teaching staff wish to take maternity leave then usually there is plenty of time to plan this. Jan would be happy to temporarily take over the classes until the teacher is able to return. Such an arrangement would normally be for 3 to 6 months maximum.
SICKNESS COVER
No one knows when a teacher is going to fall ill. Most dance schools don’t have enough teachers to cover such a situation and it is quite difficult to contact the parents affected to cancel or re-arrange the classes. If such a situation arises, Jan would be happy to cover the classes until the teacher returns subject always to distance and availability.
DANCE EVENT JUDGING
Jan has acted as an adjudicator for many in-school competitions and choreographic events. Have you thought about how inspiring this could be for your students? Events can be judged in your studio or on stage as necessary.
SHOW CHOREOGRAPHY
Having directed and produced many large shows over the years, sometimes with over 400 students, Jan is very experienced in the presentation and pictorial aspect of good choreography. If you need any help, Jan is a telephone call away.
